The 2018 Becoming an Outdoors Woman Introductory Skills Weekend is slated for October 5-7, 2018 at the University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond and registration is now open!

The Becoming an Outdoors Woman program offers workshops for women 18 and older to gain or improve skills in activities related to hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation. The workshops offer a safe and comfortable environment for beginners to learn and make new friends.

The 3-day Intro Skills Weekend allows participants to complete four 2 1/2 hour sessions in topics of their choosing ranging from shooting sports, paddling, fly casting, fishing, fly tying, ATVing, wilderness first-aid, homesteading, map and compass and much more!

The cost to attend is $230, which includes food, lodging, materials, equipment and instruction.

The Bucksmills Rod and Gun Club held a 3D archery shoot at their archery range on the Silver Lake Road on Sunday, July 8th.  The winning shooters were the following:

Public Hearing Regarding Antlerless Deer Permits

A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 6:00pm at the Augusta Armory, Room 209, 179 Western Avenue in Augusta regarding the proposed antlerless deer permit numbers for the 2018 regular deer hunting season and special muzzle-loading season.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the public hearing.

Scholarships Awarded

At Bucksport High School’s Class Night on June 6, Club President Alton Ames and Treasurer Cathy Ames presented four $500 scholarships.  Receiving the Bucksmills Rod and Gun Club scholarship were Maggie Bires and Christopher Small.  Erin McGinty was the recipient of the Harold Willis Memorial Scholarship and Meaghan Goodine received the Bucksmills Rod and Gun Club Memorial Scholarship.

Money Raffle Winners

The money raffle winners’ names were drawn May 18 at our annual prime rib banquet honoring current and retired game wardens.  In no particular order, the winners were as follows: Paul Shumaker, Carrie Manning, Arnie Grindle, Ed Rankin Jr., Norman Bowden, and Jim Boothby.  Jim generously donated his winnings back to the club to our scholarship fund.
