Know before you go.

Like thousands of hunters, you have likely spent months anticipating the fall hunting season in Maine and now it’s finally here! You have scouted your favorite hunting spot, prepared your hunting equipment and gear, and now you’re ready for the hunt.
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife reminds you that the vast majority of us hunt on private land. Maine is extremely fortunate that landowners allow access for hunting, for without that generosity, there would be very few places to hunt. Respect their property and take the extra step to show your gratitude.

Respect our private landowners.

A special message from Commissioner Chandler Woodcock.

Know before you go.

The 2018 Becoming an Outdoors Woman Introductory Skills Weekend is slated for October 5-7, 2018 at the University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond and registration is now open!

The Becoming an Outdoors Woman program offers workshops for women 18 and older to gain or improve skills in activities related to hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation. The workshops offer a safe and comfortable environment for beginners to learn and make new friends.

The 3-day Intro Skills Weekend allows participants to complete four 2 1/2 hour sessions in topics of their choosing ranging from shooting sports, paddling, fly casting, fishing, fly tying, ATVing, wilderness first-aid, homesteading, map and compass and much more!

The cost to attend is $230, which includes food, lodging, materials, equipment and instruction.

Remember this phrase: if you care, leave them there!

With nature in full bloom, many people are headed outdoors to enjoy the nice weather in their backyards, the woods and the beaches. Wildlife is active, too, and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife reminds everyone to follow these simple steps to be safe among wildlife and to keep the young animals with their mothers. READ MORE
